Aims And Objects
Guardian Bureau of Shipping LLC operates in accordance with Delaware legislation and was originally founded in 1996 by naval architects and marine engineers based in Tartous, Syria, as a classification society.
Following its establishment, GBS was restructured as a non-profit classification society in accordance with the articles of its classification and memorandums.
Building its operations as an international Classification Society, combined with the strict formulation of GBS Rules & Regulations, resulted in widespread acceptance and recognition by the global shipping community as a highly reputable entity.

Classification Services
Classification is a system for safeguarding life, property and the environment at sea. It entails verification against a set of requirements during design, construction and operation of ships and offshore units. These requirements are based on the accumulated experience from GBS's large classed fleet, research and development and extensive expertise.
Our surveyors stationed around the world work with customers to ensure compliance throughout the lifetime of the classified object. GBS is one of the world's fast-growing classification societies, and has worked to improve safety at sea since 1996.
Ship Classification is a mechanism by which the international shipping industry regulates itself. Ship Classification implies:
- Development of rules and standards for the construction and maintenance of a ship's structure and essential engineering systems.
- Implementation of such rules in newbuilding and existing ships to ensure maritime safety.
